Practising Even When We Don’t Want To

Practising Even When We Don’t Want To

Some days, meditation feels like the last thing you want to do. You’re tired. Restless. Maybe even a bit fed up. The cushion looks more like a chore than a sanctuary. But here’s the quiet truth…. those are the moments that matter most.

Anyone can meditate when they feel inspired or peaceful. But real progress is built on the days you show up anyway. The ancient Buddhist teachers called this “parami” — the slow cultivation of spiritual strength through consistency. It’s not about forcing stillness. It’s about honouring the commitment to sit, even when your mind resists.

Albert Einstein once said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” We could say the same for our mental habits. If we keep reacting, distracting and avoiding discomfort, nothing shifts. Meditation… showing up, sitting through the resistance…. is how we break that loop.

When you sit even on the difficult days, you’re teaching the mind something revolutionary: I can be still, even here. You’re strengthening the muscle of presence. You’re choosing awareness over avoidance. That’s not weakness…. that’s inner resilience being forged quietly beneath the surface.

The key isn’t perfection… it’s persistence. Start small. Five minutes. Ten minutes. Even one conscious breath is a victory. Over time, you’ll notice a subtle shift…..  a calm that’s less dependent on circumstances and more anchored in something steady, unchanging, within you.

And if you’re struggling to stay consistent, join others walking the same path. You can take part in my free weekly live meditation every Sunday at 8PM GMT. It’s designed to support you through the ups and downs of practice…. using powerful Neuro-Entrainment frequencies to help the mind settle more naturally into peace.

Remember….. showing up is the practice. Every time you sit, you’re choosing growth over stagnation. That small act of commitment ripples through your life in ways you can’t yet see.

So next time your mind says, “Not today,” smile gently, sit anyway and trust that awareness itself is doing the work.
